Las ultimas palabras de Jesucristo, colgado en esa cruz, fueron: Consumado es (Jn 19:30). Que significa eso?
Significa que, cuando Jesucristo aparecio hace veinte siglos, no vino a fundar una nueva religion. Vino a poner fin a toda religion.
La religion se basa en lo que hacemos por Dios. El mensaje de Jesus (lo que el llamo el evangelio o el feliz anuncio) se trata de lo que Dios ha hecho por nosotros.
La religion nos deja un monton de facturas pendientes. El evangelio nos entrega un cheque en blanco.
El mensaje central del cristianismo
El mensaje central del cristianismo no es lo que muchos piensan, incluso quienes han asistido a la iglesia toda su vida. Como un huerfano adoptado que tiene dificultades para aceptar que sus nuevos padres realmente lo aman, todos nosotros, en lo mas profundo, creemos que Dios nos trata en terminos de religion, no del evangelio.
Entonces, cual es el mensaje central del cristianismo?
El mensaje central del cristianismo no es que Dios condena, juzga o castiga. Tampoco es que Dios ensea, ordena o instruye. Ni siquiera es que Dios ayuda, fortalece o empodera. El mensaje central del cristianismo es que Dios sustituye.
Esto lo entendemos en la vida cotidiana. Un maestro sustituto toma el lugar del titular que esta enfermo. Un jugador de baloncesto sale del banquillo para reemplazar a otro que esta cansado o lesionado.
Entonces, que estaba ocurriendo cuando Jesus estaba en la cruz pronunciando sus ultimas palabras: Consumado es?
Estaba completando su obra como nuestro sustituto. Se estaba colocando en nuestro lugar, si estamos dispuestos a aceptarlo. Pero esto no era como el cambio de un jugador por otro. Era mas bien como un rey que toma el lugar de un prisionero condenado.
En la cruz, Jesus sufrio la muerte y la sentencia de condenacion que todos merecemos. Cumplio por completo el castigo que nuestro pecado exigia, para todo aquel que lo desee. Y por eso dijo: Consumado es.
El problema devastador
Como te suena esto? Tal vez te parezca interesante, pero no del todo convincente.
Quiza pienses que hay personas que realmente necesitan el perdon de Dios (las carceles estan llenas de ellas), pero tu estas bien. Tal vez la idea de un rey que sustituye a un prisionero condenado te haga levantar una ceja. Yo no soy un prisionero culpable, podrias pensar.
